The Brief
Craven Consultancy Services is an established HR, Health & Safety, and training consultancy founded in 2005. Originally based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, the business has since expanded with a dedicated Kent branch, offering hands-on HR support to SMEs across the county.
They came to me in need of a website refresh ahead of launching their new e-learning offering, wanting something that could handle the ever widening span of their services across multiple locations without overwhelming users with the vast amount of information they had available.
Research & Approach
The challenge was complexity. Craven offers HR services, Health & Safety consultancy, environmental support, workplace wellbeing programmes, compliance toolkits, software solutions, and a full catalogue of e-learning courses, as well as an e-commerce offer – all under one roof. They serve industries from hospitality and construction to health & social care, hair & beauty, and more so their audience varies from customer to customer.
I reviewed the existing work-in-progress site and their competitor positioning to work out how to present that range clearly, with navigation and filtering that helps different audiences find what’s relevant quickly. They had an idea of what they wanted having seen my portfolio, and were happy for me to take full creative lead.
Design & Build
The redesign introduced an expanded colour palette based on their existing logo (which was also sampled for the website) and new typography pairing to energise the brand and better differentiate the service areas.
Built in WordPress with Elementor, the site uses a lot of dynamic post loops, advanced grids and filter systems, and broad mix of stock imagery to break down complex information into scannable, accessible content.
A major part of the build was the e-commerce e-learning shop – a full course catalogue with 120+ posts, filtering by industry, theme and price range. This was implemented with the help of AI to merge various databases of information from their course provider and a lot of ongoing content writing and image sourcing for missing data!
Location-specific landing pages, including the Kent HR services page, ensure the business can target local audiences while maintaining a cohesive national presence.
The Result
The finished site gives Craven a professional, energetic online presence that reflects the full scale of what they offer – from their Yorkshire headquarters to their growing Kent operation. The e-learning platform opened up a new revenue stream, and the improved structure means SMEs can quickly find the right support, whether that’s a one-off fire risk assessment or an ongoing HR retainer.
