The Garden Cinema is an independent art-house cinema in Covent Garden, London, opened in 2022 by film enthusiast Michael Chambers. With its art deco interiors, curated repertory seasons, and intimate screening rooms, it’s built a devoted following among film lovers looking for something beyond the multiplex experience.
I was brought in as a consultant to explore a new direction for their website – a preliminary design exploration looking at how the online experience could better match the quality and personality of the venue itself.
Drawing inspiration from leading independent cinemas and cultural venues, and combining this with nods towards the patterns and colours of the cinema itself, the designs focused on a refined user journey that prioritised film discovery, seamless booking, and the kind of editorial feel that sets independent cinema apart.
The work represents a design approach I’m proud of – one that treated the website as an extension of the cinema’s identity rather than just a ticketing platform.
