The Project
Say It With Songs is a music-themed greeting card and gift company based in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent, selling cards, candles, mugs, notebooks, keyrings, and more – each product comes with a QR code which takes the recipient to the website to play the song directly. I’ve worked with the team since 2022, taking over an older WordPress site and rebuilding it from the ground up over a series of iterations as the business model has evolved.
An Evolving Partnership
What started as a straightforward site rebuild has become one of my longest-running retainer relationships. Over the years I’ve designed and developed multiple versions of the retail site as the product range expanded from greeting cards into a full gifting line, adapting the shop layout, navigation, and product filtering each time. I also built a separate wholesale-only site to service their trade customers, keeping the two experiences distinct while maintaining a consistent brand.
The WooCommerce store features custom product filtering by occasion, recipient, and product type. Each redesign has shifted the user journey slightly, as the business model adjusts and the focus changes – whether that’s buying directly online, finding the products in a local store, or being directed through a partner portal to shop elsewhere.
The Approach
This kind of ongoing relationship is where I do some of my best work. Rather than a single big-bang redesign, the site has been refined brick by brick; responding to real sales data, seasonal campaigns, and shifting business priorities. It’s a practical, iterative approach to e-commerce that keeps the site performing without the disruption of starting from scratch every time.
